About Wildfire

A NOTE FROM THE CREATOR OF WILDFIRE, IMOGEN ANDERSON.

When I was 17, I dreamt of an older version of myself desperately searching for her girlfriend. This version of myself was infected with a deadly disease, burning from her core, and yet she still searched for her love. This dream has stuck with me for years, and now at 21 I can look back to my younger self and understand what it all meant. I was navigating my sexuality and hiding parts of myself from the people I loved, but in the dream I was completely myself. I loved so deeply and passionately, as if my heart was on fire from the sheer amount of emotion that was pouring out.

Wildfire epitomises being led by your heart even in the most dire situations. In a world that is hostile and terrifying, our main characters Jen and Bella still hold onto their love for each other. I wanted to make a film that enters a couple's private and intimate world; all that is happening around them fades into the background when they are together. They are each other’s safe places and we, as an audience, get to have the privilege of experiencing the beautiful dimension they have created together. Wildfire explores these themes of the transcendence of love, intimacy and the importance of living life without fear and insecurity. We only have one life. Why not love everything that we have? Why not love fiercely and unapologetically?

I hope Wildfire makes you feel something. I hope this film makes you feel seen and makes you see the world a little differently.

I hope it makes your heart glow.

Festival plans

the future of our film

When looking at film festivals for Wildfire, there were many things we took into consideration. We wanted to enter the film in a broad range of categories, as well as some that were more specific.

As the film centres around a lesbian relationship, we looked at several film festivals that have a focus on LGBTQ+ stories. For this, we have chosen to go with the Cannes Short Film Festival, Brighton Rocks International Film Festival, and New Fest; The New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival.

The next areas we wanted to focus on were the Directing, Writing and Camera departments. For these specific awards, we have gone with the Cinematography and Photography Awards, Bristol Independent Film Festival and Birmingham Film Festival. Regional festivals are a great resource to showcase Wildfire across the UK, as well as our crew’s talent.

We are also a very AFAB dominated crew, with each of the main roles having AFAB heads of department. We wanted to celebrate this and have thus chosen the California Women’s Film Festival.

Not only do all of the festivals above accommodate student films as well, they also have a keen focus on emerging talent and independent filmmaking. As budding filmmakers, these are the perfect places for all of our crew to get our names out into the industry and establish the foundation of our careers.
